Maisy Goes Camping: A Maisy First Experience Book

Five in the tent! A camping trip with Maisy turns into a slapstick comedy of errors in this hilarious picture-book adventure.

When Maisy sets off to go camping in the country, it’s only natural that all her friends come along, too. But they soon find that pitching a tent is not an easy thing to do. Even if they do manage to keep the tent up, there’s the matter of fitting them all in — Maisy, Charley, Cyril, Tallulah, and finally, the huge elephant, Eddie. What a squeezy squish-squash! Good night, campers! Uh-oh-what’s that popping sound?

  • This is a good Maisy book, but definitely not my favorite.

I think my issue is that, instead of focusing on all the fun stuff you can do while camping, it devotes a LOT of time showing how they fit into the tent (or not!), which is cute, I suppose, but still, I like some of the other Maisy stories more.

The glittery cover makes it seems a little more impressive as a gift, which is nice.

  • I bought this book for my daughter and son in law. They are expecting their first child in the spring. They are both campers, and I thought they would like reading this to their baby. The book has nice illustrations and good storyline. Who doesn’t love Maizy? As a PreK teacher, I would recommend this book for Infant to age 5.
  • Cute book and colorful. I purchased it as a gift for our two year old grandson for his birthday to go with an indoor tent we had ordered on Amazon as well.
  • This book is really cute – perfect for 2 to 4 year olds. The pictures look really nice on the Kindle Fire – it makes reading a bed time story while we are away from home without our board books really easy.
  • This is a fun read. It shows up as black and white on Kindle, but in color on a tablet/iPad/iPod. All the animals try to go in the tent at once and some end up sleeping under the stars.
  • Short cute and sweet book for the younger ones. My students loved it and so did my son. You will enjoy the characters as you read about their camping adventure.
  • Maisy Mouse is the best! She doesn’t conform to gender stereotypes, she is always kind and loving with her ragtag group of friends, and they always have fun. Maisy Goes Camping is no different! Great little book.
  • My daughter loves the Maisy series, very engaging. This one though just feels phoned in. I’d skip it for another. There just wasn’t much that was very engaging in this one.
  • Another fun adventure with Maisy and her friends about teamwork and friendship! My daughter and I enjoy all of Maisy’s stories.
  • My new Grand-daughter went on her first camp out at the age of 2 months. Her parents loved the book & I amsure she will as she grows.
  • The illustrations in the Maisy books are wonderful – full of colour and life and fun for the little readers.
In this story, Maisy goes camping with her friends, getting into hijinks as they set up camp but can’t all fit in the tent. It’s a fun wee story, told in pretty straightforward prose rather than rhyme. My daughter and I enjoyed it, but we missed some of the wordplay, rhyming, or ‘fun soundalouds’ in the best of other kids books (eg Lynley Dodd, Julia Donaldson, etc). That’s being a bit picky, because it’s still a very cool wee book, but not quite a 5-star, ‘must-read’ one. .
A good one to get out of the library, or buy for kids who particularly love Maisy, or the outdoors
